This is a beautifully illustrated book with fantastic fun facts and an easy to read format. Great for kids and bird lovers alike. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Thanks to Alaska Northwest Books and #LibraryThing for this ARC.This is a great book. The illustrations by Evon Zerbetz capture the essences of these birds with bold, striking colors drawn largely to help make details visible. The selection of fowl is interesting and enticing including the Willow Ptarmigan and the Arctic Tern. The text, in verse, is excellent. The content is not diminished to attain the rhyming couplets and the language remains elevated retaining ornithological terms. Consider the following rhyming pairs... Something scares them - up they fly. Their murmuration sweeps the sky. Also... He felt at home! Content to be Pelagic - born for life at sea. And... A specialized toenail helps her to groom - A pectinate claw that she combs through each plume. In summary, this book is beautiful, educational, and lyrical. Absolutely excellent. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. “Alaska is for the Birds!” was a fun fast read, with wonderful art. I found some of the poems to be really reaching for the rhymes (and not succeeding!), and not very smooth - and really, a bit beyond the age range the book claims to be for. The facts in the back should have been distributed in amongst the poems, it was interesting to read! I would give it to a kid to read, yes. no reviews | add a review
