Frommer's guide books are aimed at a certain market - North American, potentially travelling overseas for the first time, as interested in shopping as they are sight-seeing, not really wanting to get off the beaten track. Which is fine if that is who you are.
If that doesn't describe you, you should probably stick to a different travel guide. That said, if you had no other guide to Germany - this book gives a decent overview of Germany considering it is a large and interesting country that it is hard to do justice to with one book. Just don't expect to find anything off-beat, and be prepared to skip over large sections of the book if you are not interested in staying in hotels and going shopping.
