Description
The white buffalo is a sacred and holy creature to the Lakota. Buffalo Dreamer, a holy woman, and her husband, Rising Eagle, have not only been blessed to see the white buffalo, they have eaten of its heart and have been told by the sacred beast that as long as the Lakota have the white buffalo hide, all will be well. But all is not well. White hunters have stolen the sacred white robe and great misfortune has befallen the Lakota. Settlers continue to invade Lakota territory, backed by show more vicious cavalry forces that massacre women and children. The Lakota are starving and their anger is growing. Mystic Warriors is book 3 of a series of books told from the Indian point of view. The romance that was engaging in Book 1 kinda fizzed out. And there was even less shared with the reader about how the Indians lived besides how they wanted to kill and get revenge.
The story became quite a bore and I only skimmed thru that last few pages to see if the ending would make up for a sad storyline.
I expected much more from this usually incredible author.
No substance, not worth the time. I was so surprised that after reading 3 EXCELLENT Rosanne Bittner books that this Indian fairytale ended up in my lap.

Since 1984 Rosanne Bittner has written more than 35 historical romance novels set in the American Old West. Bittner was born January 14, 1945 in LaPorte, Indiana. Among her works are the Savage Destiny series and almost a dozen historical sagas. Two of Bittner's award-nominated titles are Tender Betrayal (1994) and Song of the Wolf (1993), which show more received three nominations for literary prizes. This Time Forever (1990) was named Best Fictionalized Biography by Romantic Times. Best Post-Civil War Romance for 1991 was Embers of the Heart. In 1993, Bittner was the recipient of the Third Place Readers' Choice Award from the Oklahoma Chapter of Romance Writers of America.
