Description

A trouble-shooting 19th century seaman is trying to discover why so many whaling ships have been disappearing of late. Teaming with a scientist and a diver, they set sail to investigate. They are promptly captured by the megalomaniac Captain Nemo, who skippers a lavish, scientifically advanced submarine.

Three 19th-century men are captured by a mad submarine captain.

Surprisingly dark for a Disney movie. It could have been a lot better, though; the dramatic tension almost disappears once they get on board the Nautilus. My wife (who just read the book) says the changes they made are frustrating.

Wondrous adventures with Captain Nemo and his crew. The book will captivate you, and you'll never get rid of it. Great classic.
This is Jules Verne peeled off by Hollywood. Originally a mix of narrative and textbook on marine biology. Now an action/adventure flick. Yet the handful of main characters are also shallowly drawn in my opinion. Nemo's reasons for what he did are not understandably explained. And where did the financing come from for his extraordinary ship? Once he has it, he claims undersea treasures, but before? I don't know, it's ok but I had higher expectations going in.
