Description

In 1941, Henry Miller, the author of Tropic of Cancer, was commissioned by a Los Angeles bookseller to write an erotic novel for a dollar a page. Under the Roofs of Paris (originally published as Opus Pistorum) is that book. Here one finds Miller's characteristic candor, wit, self-mockery, and celebration of the good life. From Marcelle to Tania, to Alexandra, to Anna, and from the Left Bank to Pigalle, Miller sweeps us up in his odyssey in search of the perfect job, the perfect woman, and show more the perfect experience. show less

(Henry Miller)

Pudicii să se abţină. Şi cei fără show more prea multă imaginaţie.

I read a few pages the other day before heading north to my shack in the woods and will get back to this book as soon as I arrive back home to Louisville next month. I am sure the pages are still smoldering on my end table. Miller offers up porno as high art. I have never before heard mention all the different names he uses for the main organs involved in heterosexual acts, my favorite so far being the "figlet". I have seen a few porn films in my time here on Earth, but nothing compares to this novel and the way Miller has written it for pay. Pretty graphic stuff and not too silly. Plus there isn't any terrible back-beat music playing in the background.
There is a good deal of doubt about the authorship of this load of tosh. See Ferguson's Biography of Miller. As usual with this hugely self-indulgent writer, there are long passages of cod philosophy alternating with scenes of fantastic (in the literal sense) sex. It's a riot.
