Description

This volume provides an intimate tour of the wine's production, its character and the places of its origin. In this photographic wine-tour, O'Rear discovers the feminine chardonnay, a wine able to express its personality in as many ways as the stronger and more dominant masculine flavours of Cabernet. His journey takes him from France, where the wine began, to the fields of California, where it has burgeoned into one of the world's favourite and most versatile wines.

Charles O'Rear has created three highly successful photo books on wine that have sold more than 100,000 copies. His photographs about wine in National Geographic have been seen by millions of people. His wine-related photographs on file at the Corbis Westlight agency are frequently used to illustrate advertisements and articles worldwide. O'Rear show more began his serious understanding of wine and winemakers when he ventured into California's Napa Valley twenty years ago. He fell in love with the region and made it his home base where he returned from frequent and lengthy photographic assignments in the far corners of the world. Entranced with the mystery of winemaking, he began to make pictures of the process in all seasons and in all moods. Those photos became the foundation for Chardonnay: Photographs from Around the World. Michael Creedman, who also wrote the text for O'Rear's companion book Cabernet, has been a reporter for the Wall Street Journal and contributor to Money, Time, and other consumer magazines. He was the founding host of Marketplace Radio, the international daily business show on public radio. Creedman is based in San Francisco where he writes, produces radio commentary, and is an amateur winemaker. Margrit Biever Mondavi has appreciated wine most of her life. A native of Switzerland, she moved to the Napa Valley in 1961 and began working in the wine industry. Today, Mondavi directs and organizes the popular cultural programs at the Robert Mondavi Winery in California's Napa Valley. She is married to the wine legend, Robert Mondavi. show less
