His parents finally agree he can get a pet, so the next day he comes home with a hug hairy dog. His parents make him bring him back and get another pet, so then he comes home with mice. Yep his momma wasn't having that, so again he got another pet. Next, he got a shark and put in the bath tub. Finally, his parents suggest getting a bird. George told them how do I know you wont make me take it back and his parents said, "a promise is a promise." Well he came home with a parakeet and Polly wanted a cracker! Parents said take the bird back and he said but you promised. His dad said yes I did and was mad that they would be stuck with the bird. George says, " Gotcha, I guess a promise is a promise." I deal with this exact thing at my own house. My daughters father will promise the silliest things, well you better believe she doesn't forget when he breaks a promise. Lesson learned but in a funny way: don't make promises you can't keep. This is a good choice for grade k-3. Little George wants a pet. He finally convinces his parents to let him have one, and so the book is filled with his crazy attempts at finding a pet. The first issue I have with this book is that the parents just send this child to go choose a pet for himself over and over...who does that. But then I guess if they went with him and helped him pick something out the book wouldn't have more than three pages. In the end of the story the parents finally promise him that if he gets a bird he can keep it...they spoke too soon however. He brings home a very loud, rude parrot but his parents had already promised that he could keep it so he does. It's an interesting story that some young children will probably find funny. But I couldn't get past the kid going to buy his own crazy pets. Summary: This book is about a boy who wants to get a pet. But his parents have a hard time deciding which pet he can have. Because his parents do not tell him a specific pet to get he brings home all kinds of crazy animals. In the end of the story he brings home a bird and the parents are pretty good with that but then the learn the bird can speak and says awful things. So in the book it is a learning lesson and shows that you have to be careful with what you get and it will be good for parents too they should go with their kids to the pet store so they don't bring home animals, such as as shark or obnoxious birds. Personal: This book was super cute. It would be great for children who are interested in getting a pet of there own I believe because it shows how parents will react to certian types of animals. Especially to a preschool child that just wants something because it looks cool in story books. It will make them be more aware of the animal. Classroom extension ideas: 1. The first thought would to use it during animal themes. 2. This book could be used for obeying your parents 3. Then the best one would be if I chose to do responsibilty because the parents promise him that he could have a pet no reviews | add a review
