Bestselling author Lucy Burdette turns up the heat in the next installment of her Key West Food Critic mystery series, perfect for fans of Joanne Fluke and Laura Childs. Food critic Hayley Snow and her pal Miss Gloria are overjoyed to welcome Violet and Bettina Booth, aka the Scottish Scone Sisters, to Key West. The sisters will host The UK Bakes!-Key West Edition. But the same day they arrive, the bed-and-breakfast the sisters are staying in gets torched. The contest begins the next morning featuring three local bakers. One is the inn owner's wife, Rayna, who is not only the most talented chef of the group but now a person of interest in the fire. The next night, a dogwalker discovers a body near the bed-and-breakfast. The victim appears to be Rayna's husband, and the murder weapon points directly to the Scottish Scone Sisters. But the show must go on. In between filming sessions, the three elderly ladies and Hayley must search for clues to the brutal murder in order to find out who wants to force them out of the kitchen. But as they draw closer to the answer, the threats from a murderer grow closer too. Are they now in danger of getting baked off?… (more)

Another great installment in the Key West Food Critic mystery series. I love Ms Gloria and Hayley and I was so happy to see Bettina and Violet join them in this mystery. I hope we haven't seen the end of Violet and Bettina and that Tim gets to join them on their new adventures.

I always love reading the recipes at the end of the stories; someday I will actually make some of them as they all sound tasty. ( )

Haley and her elderly friend Miss Gloria are hosts to a visiting sister duo from Scotland. The day they arrive for a cooking show, the B&B where they were to stay has a fire. Now staying with Gloria, they are having a grand time, as are their hosts. Things go down a notch or two when some trouble arises during the taping of the show. And things get decided worse when the B&B owner turns up dead with a knife in his back. To clear her friends, Haley takes matters into her own hands. Really, her detective husband is on top of the crime, but that doesn’t stop Haley from nosing around. There is more to this story than just murder. Gloria’s sons want her to move to an assisted living residence for her own good and to keep her from the danger which seems to follow Haley, and thus, includes Gloria. This is a crushing decision for Haley and Gloria, should it come to pass. This well plotted story has plenty of action and some thought-provoking insights to the physical care and mental health of the elderly. ( )

In this latest addition to the Key West Food Critic series, Hayley and friends assist local law enforcement in solving crimes of arson and murder. The characters in this novel are adorable and funny, especially the elderly and feisty Miss Gloria (Hayley's neighbor in the houseboat neighborhood) and the Scone Sisters from Scotland. The sisters are visiting Key West for the filming of a baking show. However, the husband of one of the contestants dies under mysterious circumstances, and the baking equipment the sisters brought along has disappeared, including a large knife. The suspicions fall upon a number of different individuals, such as the seemingly non-existent agent for the sisters, and a grumpy baking show contestant.

Having read most of the others in this series, I can say this is one of the best novels in the series. Although it is a follow-up to the previous novel, it can easily and enjoyably be read as a stand alone story. Readers who enjoy quirky characters and cozy mysteries with a large plate of baked goodies will find this story to be a choice reading selection.

I received this novel from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own. ( )

Another fun entry in the Hayley Snow Food Critic mysteries series. The delightful Scottish Scone Sisters, Violet and Bettina Booth, make a reappearance. They are visiting Miss Gloria and Hayley in Key West to host a baking contest. As always something happens – arson, theft, murder – and no matter what friends or family say, Hayley is off and running to solve the crime, of course with Miss Gloria at her side. All your favorite characters are back, Hayley is as much of a treat as ever, and it’s a good mystery with lots of clues, twists and turns, delicious food and a satisfying ending.

Thanks to the author and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of A Clue in the Crumbs. Great read. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own. ( )

The Scone Sisters from Scotland are in Key West to kick off the American version of their TV and end up having a slumber party with Miss Gloria on her houseboat. With only three contestants scheduled for the bake-off, it's very inconvenient that only one can actually make anything edible and she's a suspect in her husband's untimely demise. With grudging acceptance from her police detective husband--who has to admit that people tell Hayley things that they wouldn't tell him, Hayley's on the case to track down the miscreants before serious harm can come to her friends! Great fun as always.

Thanks to Crooked Lane Books for access to a digital ARC via NetGalley. ( )
