"I think that while I'm snug in bed / Dreaming of Christmas treats, / The merry snowmen slip away / And hurry through the streets." And so the young boy-narrator of this second rhyming picture-book about the nighttime adventures of snowmen enters into another magical dreamscape, in which he imagines the many fun activities snowmen engage in, whilst celebrating Christmas. From decorating the Christmas tree in the town square to joining in a round of carols, the snowmen know how to mark the season, returning to their daytime places with a special holiday glow in their hearts...
Like the first picture-book about those snowy figures and their surprising nighttime adventures, Snowmen at Christmas pairs an engaging read-aloud text in rhyme show more with bright, colorful illustrations. Mark Buehner's artwork here is especially lovely, capturing the mysterious beauty of snowy nights and the festive appeal of holiday lights. My children and I love this series! What's more fun than imagining your snowmen have a life of their own at night?!
It's Christmas Eve and people are snug in their beds, but something is stirring outside. The snowmen are preparing to celebrate! Under the glow of moonlight, all the snow families are slipping away to gather in the town square for a night of caroling, dancing, and an exciting visit from the snowman Santa Claus.
It was so imaginative and captivating. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, they're singing about a king with a capitol K, and my kids are asking whats going on and I have to stop and explain to them that some people believe there was a guy born long ago with special powers and they refer to him as a king. Then I have to explain that yes some people are hypocritical when they worship a king but also say American's don't believe in kings. It just ruined the whole story.
Snowmen at Christmas is the adorable story from a child’s perspective of how snowmen celebrate Christmas. The beautiful full-page watercolor illustrations immediately compel readers. The characters’ facial expressions paralleled with the poetic rhythmic textual structure makes this story a contemporary Christmas poem. Children are comforted by the parental element between children and mother snowmen. The adorable snowmen come to life with great warmth and humor. The bold illustrations have bright vibrant colorful hues in addition to smudged shadows and very few distinct lines. The illustrator maintains the reader’s attention by hiding a cat, rabbit, Santa face, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and brown mouse in each illustration. Children will show more love this Christmas story with a distinctive rhythmic pattern. show less
This book was so adorable!!! The pictures were enchanting and the snowmen activities were wonderfully imagined. My favorite snowmen were the Cowboy hat wearing Texas Snowman and the snowman wearing the sombrero.
Almost as good as Snowmen at Night. We love the story, rhyme and illustrations. Another fun one if you sign with your kids. It's also a lot of fun to find the hidden images on each page.
