it is ok/good. I feel if you have read one of Cesar's books, you have read them all. He feels one-note to me. I get his you need to be the pack leader, but there is so much more. I understand how so many people miss knowing the basics on how to have a well behaved dog, so the need is always there. And he is great in his shows.
I rate books in terms of all the 100 books I have read, and from that standpoint, I would say it is ok and instead would recommend other books on dogs and other books on dog training.
I have watched his shows and more importantly I have read his books. Here in his book he is allowed the time to articulate his beliefs and practices. That way pet owners can understand what he is doing when working with dogs.
Some methods will work for some dogs, as he says in the book, and other methods wont work. It is important to know yourself and your dog before implementing new training.
This book covers many things but most importantly the concept of being aware and in touch with your pet is key.
Pretty good. More about how your energy effects a dog and using that knowledge to manage training properly. Good life advice too. Calm assertive energy, maintaining your space, asserting your leadership position for the happiness of all.
If you have a dog you have to read this book. This guy is a superstar overseas and with good reason.
He basically states that most every dog behavioural problem can be solved by excercise, discipline and affection, in that order. Animals are not human and we should not apply human logic in our dealings with our pets as this is what causes disfunction.

He also helps you to cultivate the calm assertive energy of the "pack leader" that dogs best recognise and respond to.

I volunteer at an animal shelter and I have tried his techniques on the dogs I walk there. I have been shocked by how quickly the dogs recognise the "pack leader" authority and respond to the correct walking technique described by Cesar.

If you get a chance, catch his show - show more The Dog Whisperer, so you can actually see the techniques in action. show less
I was already dissatisfied with Cesar's arrogant narrative but he really lost me in chapter 6 when he started babbling psuedo-scientific bullshit. Perhaps Cesar should stick to dogs and leave humans to the psychologists.
I read Cesar’s Way and enjoyed it quite a lot (though not as much as the TV show), and started applying his techniques—which I found made sense intuitively—with my own recently adopted rescue toy poodle mix Coco. I followed that up with this book which was not such a good idea. Once you've understood Cesar’s basic principles, it all gets quite repetitive. I suppose that some people need a lot of reminders before they catch on to an idea but I didn't have the patience to finish this one.
I think Cesar Milan is a beautiful person, and I have learned so much through watching his show. Frankly, my first choice would be watching the show (The Dog Whisperer), but the book is good too so if you don't have cable, read the book. Using his methods has transformed the behavior of the dog in my house (my housemate's dog) my relationship with dogs in general and more importantly my awareness of the energy I am projecting at all times. Because, as Cesar Milan shows, our dogs mirror us. I wish that every dog owner would watch the show...and non dog owners as well.
