For reasons I cannot explain even to myself I read this book of poetry backwards the first time i picked it up. Back to front, front to back, this is a wonderful little volume. Amazing pictures and a powerful message. Kim Singleton is now on my reading list.

🥰 I really liked this book. It’s a really nice gift book that covers all the change makers that we should know, remember and teach to our kids. My favorite page mentions Thurgood Marshall, Frederick Douglas, Fannie Lou Hamer and Malcolm. People get famous for all kinds of reasons… but those four really really spent their lives fighting for Blacks. And those without. I think it’s a really nice gift book.

If I had one word to describe this book of poetry, it would be: empowering!. ‘I Love My People’ by Kim Singleton is a beautiful blend of poetry that highlights the diverse and many accomplishments of Black people. As I Black woman, I loved reading it and even learning about people I never heard about, like Matthew Henson! Everyone should read this! ( )

"I Love My People" by Kim Singleton

My Sentiments:

'I Love My People' was a beautifully written novel about Black History which included historical figures who added so much not only to one's history but 'great achievements, lifestyles, and their beautiful diversity and culture in its poetic form' By the end the reader will get an excellent understanding of what it's all about... from not only loving oneself but also loving your people, its community and hopefully, in the end, giving one the 'joy, delight, the showcase of the power, and proving who we are and destined to be... and that would be loved.' I didn't want to leave out the beautiful photos that were related so well in the novel... incredibly and beautifully displayed poetry. ( )

This book introduces you to this people; people of color. She points out that this people include many great achievers that most know nothing about. There were a few names that I had to research myself, for example, Hurston, Octavia Butler and Daisy Bates.

The author uses pictures, poetry and rhyme to show what goes on inside and outside the world of people of color. The book answers some questions of what it is to be black in America. It is an elite group with only one qualification.

The writer did keep the subject light and cheery for the younger readers. Because of books like this, you can educate this people and others to learn this culture to appreciate this culture and to not be afraid of this culture.

FEAR PRODUCES HATE. ( )
