Description

The two women in Perry Mason's office were a cat-and-mouse combination. And at first glance it seemed that little Mrs. Davenport was the mouse. But her husband said she was trying to kill him...that she had already murdered once and would not hesitate to strike again. Mason's own curiosity made him take the case, and before long he was wanted for questioning by several different officers of the law. Question: was Myra Davenport a quiet little person, who enjoyed nothing better than pottering show more about in her garden? Or was she a poisoner, a minx, a modern Lucrezia Borgia? A superb courtroom expose climaxes Perry Mason's brilliant detection. show less

Not the best of mysteries as the beginning was a bit jumbled, and you don't really get to know the main defendant much at all - but I do enjoy when Perry gets into a new court system where he hasn't played his game before, and for a change he meets a lawyer that he not only respects, but that he continutes to get along with. This was a change.
Good read. Story moves along well. Not as dated as you wood think.
"Case of the Runaway Corpse" by Erle Stanley Gardner involved a presumed dead man crawling out his motel room window and escaping to parts unknown, leaving behind a letter supposedly implicating his wife as his murderer.
"There is danger of death which is virtually inevitable after 0.6 percent of alcohol is in the blood. C. W. Muehlberger has prepared an interesting chart. 0.1 percent is called 'Dry and Decent.' 0.2 percent 'Delighted and Devilish.' 0.3 percent 'Dizzy and Delirious.' 0.4 percent 'Dazed and Dejected.' 0.5 percent 'Dead Drunk.'"
Interesting conclusion. I wondered how everything was going to tie in, but everything did.
