Where to begin? Goblins in the Castle is a wonderful children's fantasy book. It is easy to comprehend and such an exciting adventure. From invisibility cloak (which J.K. Rowling totally stole) to shiny amulet and from goblins to bopping teddy bears, this book offers so much to the reader. Humorous and daring, Goblins in the Castle was a delightful read. =)
Lots of fun, so well written, a relief coming off a more recently written and poorly edited fantasy book. I did feel that the girl Fauna could have been made more central to the story. If she hadn't been there, the entire plot could have happened anyway. But I do love the way Coville seamlessly moves between humor and spookiness. He's a master. And this particular book, which is now more than 20 years old, stands the test of time really well.
"Goblins in the Castle" is a wild adventure story that has kids begging me to read them more! The story starts off peacefully in a fantastical setting in the past where William, a young boy, lives a quiet life with the few others that live in the castle. On the night of Halloween one year, everything changes. William finds himself in the middle of a wild adventure with a young girl he barely knows and a goblin he doesn't know if he can trust. William's entire world is changed by his one action, and he must figure out how to make things right for everyone.

Bruce Coville was born in Syracuse, New York, on May 16, 1950. He spent one year at Duke University in North Carolina. Coville started working seriously at becoming a writer when he was seventeen. He was not able to start selling stories right away, so he had many other jobs, including toymaker, gravedigger, cookware salesman, and assembly line show more worker. Eventually, Coville became an elementary teacher, and worked with second and fourth graders. Coville married Katherine Dietz an artist, and they began trying to create books together. It wasn't until 1977 that they finally sold their first book, The Foolish Giant. They joined together on two other books after that, Sarah's Unicorn and The Monster's Ring, and followed them with Goblins in the Castle, Aliens Ate My Homework, and The World's Worst Fairy Godmother.
