In my opinion, this is the best guide to Mexico ever written. Rather than giving specific places to stay or eat, Franz relates insider info about every facet of traveling in Mexico one could imagine. Having traveled in Mexico since 1971, and being nearly fluent in spanish, I respect the wisdom that is found in this volume. Few gringos know Mexico as thoroughly as Franz does. This is not your run of the mill guidebook. It is full of entertaining anecdotes and one can open it at any page and enjoy a good read. If you are planning a trip south of the border, and are a traveler, not a tourist, this is the book for you.
Great read. Low-budget travel tips and only slightly countercultural. May be a bit dated now.
