Never ride your elephant to school. And if you need to be convinced, boy, do you need to read this book! It's not that the elephant is such a troublesome or unruly one, it's just that his natural exuberance combined with his rather distinctive size pose some very particular problems. Imagine an elephant sitting in a school desk, climbing rope in gym class, or playing tether ball at recess and you'll see what we mean!
This is a humorous story about a young girl who rides her elephant to school. Unfortunately for her, he wants to participate in every activity that she is doing such as eating lunch with her friends, playing at recess, painting, sitting in a desk, and riding a bicycle. After a full day of activities she rides her elephant home. After that day she never rides her elephant to school but to the circus where he has a better time.

I would like to have this book in my classroom because it is humorous and has wonderful, colorful, and fun illustrations. I think this book would be appropriate for children ages 4-6.
Never Ride your Elephant to School

Summary: Imagine an elephant riding a bicycle, sitting in a desk, during lunchtime or at recess! Think of all the trouble that would cause. This book gives lots of reasons why you should never ride your elephant to school. You should ride him to the circus instead.

Personal Reaction: This is a fun book about all the silly reasons not to ride your elephant to school. My son thought this book was hilarious!

Classroom Extension Ideas: The class could talk about transportation. (If you should never ride your elephant to school then how would you get there?) It would also be a fun way to discuss what the appropriate classroom behavior is.
28 months - This story follows a tried and true pattern of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and other books in that series. Still a cute if somewhat crazy story idea.
modeled after, "If you give a mouse a cookie."
