Borderlines: 21 Lines on the Map that Divide and Define Europe

by Lewis Baston

On This Page

Description

Historian Lewis Baston journeys along twenty-nine key borders from west to east Europe, examining how the map of the continent has been redrawn over the last century. The fingerprints of Napoleon, Alexander I, Castlereagh, Napoleon III and Bismarck are all there, but today's map of Europe is mostly the work of the Allies in 1919 and Stalin in 1945.

The chapters on central and central-eastern Europe were really interesting, but I found the chapter on Finnish and the Baltic state borders with Russia a bit shallow and lacking in history.
