Each vignette offers a view from the inside, which might be difficult for a Caucasian to obtain or understand without assistance.Notably missing, however, are hard-hitting, pull-no-punches stories. This is the work of a free-lance journalist following his passion and curiosity, not an undercover super-cop. Questions about gangs, drugs, weapons and crime go largely show more unanswered.After reading this book, I feel no better equipped to debate the larger issues involved, but I do have a better view of the driving forces. show less
