A novella-length ebook, [b:Prayers on the Wind|12883766|Prayers on the Wind|Walter Jon Williams|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DCSe9DD2L._SL75_.jpg|18037059] is typically good Walter Jon Williams stuff; the world is rich and populated with all kinds of strange goodies (like the crystal planet, which is essentially a giant computer) and the characters are real (as in flawed).
Williams' overall command of history and religion is about as good as it gets in the sci-fi world, and that's reflected in this
Those who like this WJW story should consider buying his impressive [b:The Green Leopard Plague and Other Stories|7756439|The Green Leopard Plague and Other Stories|Walter Jon show more Williams|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1279510619s/7756439.jpg|10613359] short story collection -- one of the best short fiction collections of recent times.
I hope stories like these represent a new trend; self-published short fiction that formerly wouldn't pay for itself, but can now generate a reasonable revenue stream. We all win if we gain access to the shorter, jewel-like stories that fulltime novelists couldn't afford to write.
