I believe that I have read this as a short story, but the original voice play format makes it far more frightening than the written words can. Something about hearing the events take place alongside the narration is infinitely more disturbing, since we can no longer skim over uncomfortable paragraphs. Thank god this hasn't been turned into a video yet...
A year or so ago the children told me they were studying fairytales told from alternative points of view, and when I saw this I thought this may have been one of them. Out of interest, I started to read it and soon came to the conclusion that this was probably not among the stories read to the children who were in grade 2 at the time. However I thoroughly enjoyed this re-telling of the Snow White story, which told from the viewpoint of the stepmother and with an intended audience which would be adults, it was actually quite dark, probably more in line with the origins of most of the fairy tales. Quick read but well worth it.
Very well written and highly entertaining retelling of the Snow White fairytale. Not recommended for the young on account of several disturbing elements a.o. implied necrophilia and incest .
I love how creepy it is and how some aspects from the original story was still there. This book doesn't disappoint.

This is no lovey-dovey retelling. it's from the Queen's point of view and precious little snow-white and her prince are not exactly normal.

"At first the prince seemed excited. He bade me remove my shift, and made me stand in front of the opened window, far from the fire, until my skin was chilled stone-cold. Then he asked me to lie upon my back, with my hands folded across my breasts, my eyes wide open – but staring only at the beams above. He told me not to move, and to breathe as little as possible. He implored me to say nothing. He spread my legs apart."
--------Dude, the prince has a fetish

"Her fingernails must have show more been as sharp as glass: she opened her breast with them, running them over the purple scar. Her chest gaped, suddenly, open and bloodless. She licked her heart, once, as the blood ran over her hands, and she pushed the heart deep into her breast."
-----snow white needs some mani-pedi

lets' not forget the part where "She straddled him, and she fed. As she did so a thin blackish liquid began to dribble from between her legs…" creeeepppyyyy!!

I remember when I first read Gaiman's short story - it was one of the first "dark" retellings of a fairy tale, and really sold it. So when I saw the graphic novel adaptations, I was surprised it hadn't happened earlier.

Dillon's art is fantastic, and well-suited.
An interesting retelling of the fairy tale of Snow White where the "evil" queen is cast as the victim, and Snow White is the villain. A warning - strong adult themes including Necrophilia.
5 stars go to the artwork alone in this dark retelling of Snow White. The story is pretty good, but the art makes the book.
