Silly - aiming at the wrong target. He thought the whole problem was the old feud - that she was bound by family duty to avoid him. In fact she was refusing to be bound by family duty, which would have her marrying him to avoid a scandal and bring peace. Took him long enough to figure out what she needed to know! And she'd made it pretty explicit at least twice that I can think of. ( )
