Description

From the dawn of time, ever since Adam and Eve, all artists of every age--whether the Egyptian, Greek, or Roman artists of Antiquity, or more recent famous names such as Rembrandt, Courbet, Degas, or Picasso--have succumbed to their fantasies, obsessions, and libido and produced erotic works that the censors have taken good care to keep from the public. For Erotica Universalis, we surface from the subterranean realms of the museums to enter those of our national and private libraries. Here show more we discover that not only most of our famous writers, such as Ovid, Aretino, Voltaire, Verlaine, or Maupassant, wrote erotic texts that bordered on indecency, but also that great artists like Boucher, Fragonard, Dalí, or Matisse were inspired to provide suitable illustrations for these naughty books. For this new hardcover edition of the classic 1995 best seller, we have culled highlights from our Erotica Universalis collection. show less

Reproductions of erotic art from Greek vases to Tomi Ungerer via Fragonard and Georg Grosz. The small page size inevitably restricts appreciation of detail, and the commentaries are brief, but considering that many of these graphic works have hardly been available to public view until late in the 20th century this is an admirable compendium.
Erotica through history. Titillating (pun intended) though a bit sparse on text, but the point is the pictures.

This is an erotic art book. It consists of pictures, painting and illustration of various erotica. The test is very sparse which is the point. The book is for looking at not reading about. If you enjoy erotic pictures you will probably find something here to enjoy. I recommend it to anyone who likes erotica and the history of erotica.
