LFL find that would appeal much more to my inner child and would have to young me, rather than to adult me. A magical musical word-play that is akin to nonsense verse, a good fit for the nonsensical plot about a big party, for cows only, on the moon.
What a silly spin on an old nursery rhyme! This book follows two cows, Millie and Maude while they go on an adventure to the moon and back wearing the Huckabuck children's new black boots! The illustrations take you throughout the journey to the moon jumping over fences, going through ponds, and flying to the moon.
Clever poetic language, some nonsense words, fun to read, good for ELLs
I liked this book for the illustrations. The illustrations followed the story. If readers struggled with the reading, then they could still have an idea of what was happening. I didn't like this book because of the writing. It was very hard to read properly. I stumbled throughout the whole story. For example "Over the hills of Hillimaadoon and Willimadoon and Rattamadoon and Hattamadeen, up the river and down the river and over the bridge and around the bend come Millie and Maude, two cool cows from the Huckabuck Farm.

Stealing the black button-back boots from the children at their farm, cool cows Millie and Maude begin a midnight adventure of moon jumping and partying with the other cool cows.
This would be a good read for advanced first grade or early second grade readers. It is about two cool cows who borrow some kids boots and jump over the moon. It has a tricky rhythm but will help them practice sounding out words and putting them together.
Wonderful rhythmic text, funny illustrations. This book plays on the "cow jumped over the moon" nursery rhyme.
