Advisory: Holman Bible Atlas is included as a Bible study reference tool that helps readers deepen their understanding of the geographical and historical world of Scripture. It presents scholarly insights into ancient geography, archaeology, and cultural context that illuminate the biblical narrative. Because it is produced from a non‑Catholic academic perspective, readers should be aware that it is not specifically aligned with Catholic doctrinal commentary. It works best when paired with Catholic biblical commentaries and Church‑guided Scripture study resources so parishioners can integrate geographical context with the Church’s understanding of Scripture.
The Holman Bible Atlas illuminates the Bible for a whole new generation of students and teachers by introducing them to the physical, cultural, and historical settings of the biblical narrative. Integrating insights from physical and historical geography, archaeology, ancient historical sources, and the Bible itself, the Holman Bible Atlas presents 132 newly designed full color maps complete with specific biblical texts to assist teachers and students alike in understanding. Beginning with the physical geography of the ancient Near East and Palestine, the Holman Bible Atlas illuminates various periods of biblical history by outlining eras from the Patriarchs through the Christian era and Constantine.
Pretty dry book, though the maps are very good. The text of the book is actually more of a history book than a geography book, which is okay, just unexpected. It got pretty good around Persia, Greece, and Rome (maybe just because that's the part I knew the least about), but all in all, it was a slow dry read.
