This is a very suspenseful novel, and yet it’s full of sharp and witty comments on real life.

A recent widow suddenly receives a message saying that she was responsible for her husband’s death. And then things go from bad to worse. Mysterious events lead people to wonder whether husband Ivor is actually dead. Just when she’s longing for peace and quiet, Ivor’s odd lot family comes for Christmas visits and never leaves.

The suspense builds nicely and kept this reader turning pages. Author Fremlin is unjustly forgotten; her books are unexpected gems.
