Another delight for fans of Du Bois. Something like children's science fiction, with some of the showmanship part of Mr. Popper's Penguins thrown in. What would you do if you had anti-gravity? I particularly liked the beginning, when we learn how Peter's leadership is almost Machiavellian through the game/ trial of Follow-the-Leader. After that point the personalities became less interesting because the adventure became more dominant.
Though his The Twenty-One Balloons was much more famous, this was my favorite Du Bois story. I must have checked it out from the Bookmobile (our county library was quite far) ten times as a kid.
