The Book of Brendan

The Book of Brendan by the British author Ann Curry is a marvelous story of good vs. evil. Set in medeival Britain, the tale centers around Holybury Abbey where Father Brendan has just finished his life's work, a beautiful book filled with healing remedies and decorated with herbs and flowers and fanciful creatures. Also boarding at the abbey is a student named Elric who becomes a focal figure in the fight against an evil magician who plans to overtake the entire realm. Father Brendan and Elric are joined by another child, Bridget, who lives in the neighboring village and has seen the magician Myrrdin's devious work firsthand. Father Brendan's book and the secrets and helpers that it provides are central to the story, as are the basic show more concepts of faith, hope, and truth. A beautiful, classic tale. show less
