Personal Finance Workbook For Dummies

A very quick read that's basically a Cliff's Notes of personal finance. It includes several worksheets that weren't of much benefit to me. Some were down right ridiculous. They had you doing basic multiplication and subtraction of three or four numbers. Do we really need a worksheet for that? Some were worksheets for making a simple list of five to seven items. I mean, really.

I shouldn't be too critical. I recognize that the book is a Dummies book and I have no doubt that for someone who is totally oblivious to personal finance, this would likely be very helpful. I didn't fall into that category. I borrowed this book because it had some info on two specific topics - the best order for investment vehicles (401k, then Roth IRA, then show more After-tax investments, etc.) and some info on Medicare for my mother-in-law. I also picked up a decent tidbit on making an emergency contact list and some thoughts on appropriate insurance coverages. All in all, it wasn't a waste of time for me.

If you're new to personal finance, give it a whirl. You'll probably enjoy it's easy flow and simple worksheets. You could accomplish a lot with this book if you're starting from zero. If you've read several books on the topic like I have, save your cash. show less
