This is an interesting narrative history of the events leading up to the Louisiana Purchase, as well as the treaty itself and the after effects. The book is one in the John Wiley & Sons, Inc. "Turning Point" series. These are physically a bit smaller in dimensions, although the font is quite readable. To save pages there are no end notes, index(!) or bibliography, although there is a short "Further Reading" section. Still, with an author like Thomas Fleming the reader is fairly assured of a competent history. This would be an excellent first book for folks who want to know more about the subject without committing to a much longer, much more detailed book.
