What makes someone a moral person? The author illuminates how children become moral or not so moral adults, drawing on case studies, talks with parents, visits to nurseries and classrooms, and interviews with children. No subject could be more important and more timely—for all Americans, but especially for parents. The book identifies a new type of intelligence essential for success and fulfillment in life.
This is a long listen - 8 1-hour cassettes. I made it through 7. The first one was promising because I actually stopped & rewound parts of it a few times. However, the rest of the tapes were quite heavy on antectdotes. It's good to hear about
others' experiences, but there were too many of them for my taste.

I'll probably check out the book and skim it for the good info. Overall, there's good info in it, but it was a dry listen.

Update: I finished listening to the tapes today in the van while. Tape 8 is good. He talks more about Tolstoy's story of the old man & his family eating dinner. Though I just said I didn't like so many antecdotes, the ones on Tape 8 were excellent illustrations of the issues around moral character & intelligence. show more Inspired me in my parenting & homeschooling.

BTW, the Tolstoy story was from one of the earlier tapes. It also showed up in the the same week while the kids & I were listening to Ginger Pye. That's why the Tolstoy story felt familiar - because I read it aloud in Ginger Pye sometime last year, but didn't remember that fact until this year's reading of Ginger Pye. Love connections like that!
