This book contains a wide variety of poems that I believe will be a hit with young children. The element of humor is the real ice-breaker in terms of introducing children to poetry and this collection delivers. There is a range of topics including family, school, food, animals and even variations of familiar Mother Goose rhymes.
I don't believe that the illustrations detract from children being able to use there imagination at all because the subject matter is full of fantastical situations.

I thought that this poetry book was a good book. I liked this book for multiple reasons. First, I liked how the book is divided up into different categories or sections. Some of the categories are “All About Me”, “Off to School We Go”, “What’s for Dinner?”, and “Critters”. Each one of these topics has a bunch of poems that goes along with the theme. Second, I like that the poems are humorous. One poem was called “I Love You Not” and funny details and rhyming words. For example, the poem said “If you were a dog I would give you a bite. If you were a witch I would give you a fright”. I like how each line rhymes and how the topics are so original. Third, I like the illustrations in the book. All of the show more illustrations are in black and white which I thought was different and unique. It makes the poems calm and not distracted by the illustrations. One illustration that I really liked went along with a poem called “Fast Food”. The illustration was a drawing of three witches with warts, witches hats, and big noses. The picture did a great job depicting witches and even had a caldron and a black cat. Part of this poem says, “They stir things in a caldron and slap them on a dish, hot pimple-breaded lizards and moldy cactus fish. I also like the descriptive language used in these poems such as “moldy cactus fish”. Overall, I think the main idea of this book is to provide children with humorous poems that they can relate to their own lives. show less
This is a wonderful collection of poems that has goofy illustrations. There are many different authors in this book but each poems is fun and for children or adults to read. This is an outstanding collection that ties the illustrations to the poems, sometimes sharing illustration between more than one poem.
Any child, even if they do not like poetry, will love this. It is easy to read and hilarious. I think children would enjoy reading these poems.
A Bad Case of the Giggles: Poems that Will Make You Laugh Out Loud is the sequel to Kids Pick the Funniest Poems. Edited by Bruce Lansky, the poems chosen for this anthology are appealing to children. These high interest poems are categorized into nine main themes from tongue twisters to school related. The selected poems are by various well known authors, such as Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. The table of contents and credit pages as well as the author and title indexes are useful features. Moreover, the black and white illustrations are cartoonish and highlight the silliness of the poems. Readers will find the humor and nonsensicalness of these rhyming poems amusing and not contrived. These humorous verses are great for reading show more aloud and easy for memorization as the poems are based on sounds of words. This book is a great start in introducing children to poetry.
