The first three stories---those by Bertrice Small, Susan Johnson, and Thea Devine---I could have lived without. Filled with purple prose, characters I found impossible to like or care about, melodrama, and a surfeit of ITALICS, they seemed more a waste of time than an enjoyable escape. So the three stars I've rated this book are entirely due to Robin Schone's story---a tender, honest, moving example of the genre.
Really enjoyed this book. Some stories were hard to put down and only one was harder to get thru (ok very easy to put down), but all in all good book!

Bertrice Small was born on December 9, 1937 in Manhattan, New York. Primarily known as a historical romance author, she also wrote erotica and fantasy romance. Her first novel, The Kadin, was published in 1978. She wrote more than 50 romance novels during her lifetime including The Love Slave; Love, Remember Me; Hellion; Darling Jasmine; Betrayed; show more Bedazzled; A Memory of Love; and Lucianna. Susan Johnson was born in 1956 and grew up in Australia. She is a former journalist. She lives in London with her husband and two sons. Susan Johnson was born in 1956 in Queensland. She is an Australian author of memoirs, literary fiction, short stories and essays. She has also worked as a journalist for Australian newspapers, journals, and show more magazines. She soon became an adjunct Professor of Creative Writing at Queensland University of Technology.
