What a great read for a fifth grader! The themes of camaraderie and rivalry are especially prevalent in this book, and important at this age. This book does not serve my goal of finding gender neutral books, but most young girls would probably love this book!
I have to say that normally I would love any horse book but this series was just way to much 'he loves her' and 'I love him but he also loves me.' I just couldn't take it. So yay, I would recommend this to you if you love a book with loads of drama and lovey-dovey action, which clearly I don't.
I used to read this series in middle school. I loved them, and even my friends who didn’t grow up riding horses loves them. This series inspired me to get back into riding and look around boarding schools for riding. I desperately need a new adult version of these kinds of books.
When Sasha Silver and her horse Charm arrives at the Canterwood Crest Academy, Sasha knows that she has something big coming for her at this elite school. The academy is not exactly opening their arms to Sasha especiall the "trio". One group of girls at Canterwood Crest riding academy are use to always being number and when Sasha shows her skills the "trio" always fight back! Sasha is determined to show everyone that she belongs at Canterwood. Will Sasha make the advance riding team? Or will she fail her first semester?

Sasha Silver is ready for more. She's enrolled in Canterwood Crest, a serious riding school. But in the first hour, she loses control of her frightened horse - causing an accidental spill. In doing so, she made her first enemy.
Luckily, Sasha adores her roommate, Paige, who isn't involved in the equestrian side of school. Canterwood Crest is a huge step up from her previous riding experiences. Sasha hopes that she can live up to the school's reputation and her riding instructor's expectations.
After her first day, it's clear that Sasha can handle the riding portion of school. However, Heather's not used to sharing the spotlight. She senses competition from Sasha and it becomes her personal show more mission to take Sasha down.
Sasha never dreamed she'd have to deal with mean girls on top of challenging classes, long riding lessons, and competing to make the advance riding team. She's determined to come out on top, but first she has to go through Heather.
This series is THE SADDLE CLUB meets THE CLIQUE in a seriously fun and addicting read. Sasha could be your best friend: she's smart but relaxing and knows how to have a good time. Plus, she's determined and can hold her own against Heather. While Sasha might not always like Heather (or her comments); she can sympathize with her. She's a great character who shows depth and wisdom. show less
