Dr. David Audley, historian and spy, worries British Intelligence when he travels to Italy without telling anyone. Some are concerned he might be defecting. But the trip is in service of a plot involving the KGB and misinformation about North Sea oil reserves. There's also been a kidnapping. Italian state security is interested.
Anthony Price's espionage stories are more intellectual than most, and well-plotted.

SEL was an avid fan of Price's work. Somewhere there is a letter from Price to SEL.
