Perloo the Bold

A scholarly, shy member of the rabbit-like Montmers, Perloo is content sipping myrtle tea and reading his history books in his warm burrow. Until the day Perloo's quiet life is interrupted by a mysterious summons from the Montmer leader. What follows is an incredible journey that will take Perloo over snowy mountains, through underground tunnels, and into enemy territory - and will alter history forever.

Perloo has everything waiting for him. He is supposed to succeed Jolaine as Chief of the tribe. Others have a different idea of what should happen. When Jolaine dies, Perloo is accused of murder, throw him in jail and take over.

Perloo must fight to gain his freedom and restor order by taking back the tribe that was promised to him.

Students could discuss what types of government are reprented in the story and discuss whether they are better or worse than our form of government.

Jolaine, the chief of the Montmers, writes a proclamation that Perloo is to become Granter of the tribe after her death. However, Berwig, her son, and his scheming counselor Senyous have other ideas for the tribe. They accuse Perloo of murdering Jolaine and take control of the tribe instating martial law. Perloo must overthrow Berwig by asking the help of the Montmer’s sworn enemies, the Felbarts.

I've never been a big fan of fantasy, but this book was very enjoyable to me.

The book could be used in conjunction with social studies to teach students about the differences between the different types of government.

Perloo, a peaceful scholar who has been chosen to succeed Jolaine as leader of the furry underground people called the Montmers, finds himself in danger when Jolaine dies and her evil son seizes control of the burrow.

I didn't like this book as much as other books because it started out pretty slow and didn't get anywhere by chapter 17 and there were around 30 chapters.
