Acorna, Becker, RK, Mac, Nadhari, and the two Wats splash land on a nearby planet and have to be rescued to the nearest Federation outpost on none other than Nadhari and RK's home planet. Where a mysterious illness is threatening all of the temple guardians. Acorna, of course, insists on helping heal wherever she can.
I found the story more consistent than the other volumes I have read recently. The temple cat theme is a fun one and it was great to see Nadhari shine. I liked this one enough to find a copy of the next volume (but check if it is at the library first).
Acorna travels through space searching for her lost lifemate, Aari, only to be forced into a dangerous detour on a jungle world. The Linyaari, Acorna's people, are reclaiming their world from the Khleevi, but Acorna's lifemate, Aari, has gone missing on a dangerous, mysterious journey, leaving Acorna desperate to find him.

While on this quest with her crew: Captain Becker, Mac, Nadhari, and the telepathic cat Roadkill RK, their ship is forced to crash-land on Makahomia, a barbaric jungle world under a Federation blockade, home to sacred, intelligent Temple Cats.

The Cats, who are relatives of RK, are dying from a mysterious plague. Acorna discovers the disease is part of a sinister, manufactured plot to destroy the feline guardians and show more exploit the planet's resources. Acorna organizes a group of rebels to fight against this conspiracy. In the process, she uncovers ancient secrets about the origins of the Linyaari, which provide clues to Aari's location. show less

For the most part I generally lost interest in this book (6 of the series) because even though Acorna is saving Mahakamahomia and the cats, her original mission ( that is her search for Aari who has been mysteriously missing since the last book has been forgotton and almost thought to be a " lost cause." However, the most unbelieveable turn of events as far as literary devices goes happens right at the end of the book when Mack transmits a message from Aari for Acorna, claiming that he's alive and well just located in a different part of time and space. If I didn't by now like Acorna and McCaffrey I would stop reading this tale, but I HAVE to find out what happens!!!!
