Una novela negra, completamente diferente a lo que he leído.

Claro hay un asesinato y también nos adentramos en la, digamos, investigación de dicho asesinato.

Pero, digo diferente, porque todo esto lo vemos a través de Francis, que es un hombre trastornado e internado en una clínica psiquiátrica.

Es, por decir lo menos, agobiante, adentrarte en la mente de un loco, vivir sus dudas, sus pensamientos erráticos, no puedo mas que darle un aplauso a Katzenbach por haber logrado que yo misma me trastornara un poco, porque si, la historia del asesinato, es ya de por si, inquietante, pero meterte en la mente de Francis lo es todavía mas.

Wer der Meinung ist, zu einem guten Thriller gehört eine genaue Beschreibung des Täters und des Motivs, sollte von diesem Buch die Finger lassen. Hauptperson ist Francis, ein junger Schizophrener, aus dessen Sicht die vergangenen und gegenwärtigen Geschehnisse größtenteils geschildert werden. Der ständige Kampf mit seinen Stimmen im Kopf, die Beschreibung der Mitinsassen, der Pfleger und der Atmosphäre in der Anstalt verleiht der Geschichte eine Spannung, die die Suche nach dem Engel zeitweise fast nebensächlich erscheinen lässt.
Ärgerlich ist aber die Übersetzung und das Lektorat:
Selten habe ich so viele Fehler innerhalb kurzer Zeit gelesen, manchmal hatte ich schon den Verdacht, hier war eine Übersetzungsmaschine am Werk. show more Nur ein paar Beispiele:
Beginnend ab Seite 39 werden das ganze Buch hindurch lebende(!) PatientInnen auf Bahren herumgetragen.
Ein Hüne mit über 1,95m Größe wiegt um die 1 1/2 Zentner (Seite 41).
Ein Mann hat Ofenröhren-Beine (Seite 75).
Ein Ausschnitt vom eierschalenblauen Himmel (737) usw.
Und das sind nur krasse Beispiele. Immer wieder denkt man beim Lesen: Das klingt ja komisch, der Satzbau ist merkwürdig. Viel Mühe wurde hier offenbar nicht in die Übersetzung investiert.
Auch eine/n LektorIn scheint das Buch nicht gesehen zu haben: Es wimmelt von unlogischen Geschehnissen, die auch im Laufe der Geschichte nicht aufgeklärt werden. Peinlich, kann ich da nur sagen.
Fazit: Wer über die schlechte Übersetzung und die 'Unlogiken' hinweglesen kann, hat eine gute Story aus einer mal etwas anderen, ungewöhnlichen Sicht. show less

This started off really promising, and I really wanted to enjoy it more than I did, but by the end it was dragging along soooo slowly that it was annoying to read and I really had to slog through to finish it. The characters started to feel forced, and the villain at the end just didn't satisfy me - it felt hollow when it was all over. Plus there is some serious overwriting, where something could be said in a brief sentence but goes on in flowery paragraphs full of metaphors. I would like this book a lot more if it was cut down by a really good editor.

I loved the book! I wasn't sure at first and I had been eyeing it at the library for a while, but I finally decided to get into it and I'm not regretting a second of it. It follows the story of Francis Petrel, a crazy man, who tells the story of is time in a psychiatric Hospital some 20 years ago. During that time a murder took place, which change his life for ever.
This book would go in the suspence category as you follow the investigation from within the hospital where all the rules of the outside world no longer apply. Very entertaining.

I really enjoyed this book. Yes, it reminded me somewhat of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but the actual story was totally different. I didn't know what was going to happen next. The ending was slightly hopeful although, sadly,not all the characters survived.

Quite a thrilling thriller. A gripping story well written and told. The plot gets faster at the end and it is difficult to put it down. I would highly recommend it for those who like psychological thrillers. The descriptions are so good that it is easy to see a movie in your head while reading it.

While the story was interesting, it was hard to get into. The last 60 pages or so were the most exciting.
