What do you do when the vampire who loves you is an evil, seductive, sadistic son of a bitch?
I would not call this book a romance. Romantic is not how I would characterize the complex relationship between Simon and Meghann. It's more about obsession, dominance, attraction, power and guilt. Their's is a twisted tale of two soulmates who can't be together because their love is destructive, not only for themselves, but for those around them. Simon is evil, absolutely unadulteratedly evil, and Meghann knows this, and tries to fight the darkness in her that is attracted to him. She struggles to find a redemptive path that doesn't include him, so that she can live with the things he made her do after he turned her into a vampire. Only he show more won't let her alone.
Never have I read a novel with a more complicated relationship, and normally, when I read a novel I am rooting for the couple to get together so they can walk off into the sunset for their happy ever after. In this case, I just kept hoping that Meghann would find the strength to walk away, and then find a way to meet him as an equal and either destroy him or at least keep him at bay.
This is an interesting book, and I hope to one day be able to finish the other two novels in the series. show less

I tried so hard to like this book but just couldn't. I did not connect with any of the characters, especially the protagonist, Meghann, who was cold and selfish and somewhat of a slut-puppy. She stayed with an abusive man because the sex was good? I know there was more to it than that but she seemed to focus on mostly on how great the sex was.
I had to force myself to read it. I finally gave up 76% through.
