This book tells the story of the trip made by the early Pern settlers from the South continent to the North. Initially when Pern was settled both continents were considered viable but the South continent was soon discovered to be subject to violent volcanic eruptions. A convoy of ships, all sizes and types, was used to move the settlers and their belongings. But they wouldn't have made it if the dolphins hadn't been there to help.

This story filled in some of the gaps in Pernese history for me and the dolphins are another Pernese inhabitant that I would love to meet. Thanks Anne for another great story.
The Dolphin's Bell is a 157-page novella set in the early days of Pern. It tells of the second crossing, from the Southern Continent to the Northern Continent. The story runs contemporaneously with the conclusion of the novel Dragonsdawn.

The Dolphin's Bell appears in the anthology, The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall. It was published as a Wildside Press book, also.

This is one action-packed tale. It was my favorite of First Fall.
