Packed full of bright, engaging pictures and punchy, oddball humor, this book is a great off-the-wall introduction not only to America's state birds but any number of random state-related facts. Be prepared to answer questions on some of the more outlandish---and absurdly presented---details, though. (Is Arizona's state neckwear really the bolo tie? Yes. Did they really forget Alaska's state flower? No, but it is the forget-me-not.) ( )

Framed as a pageant and competition among all the state birds for the "top tweet," this whimsical, fact-filled book introduces all the state birds alphabetically by state. On each page, there is the state name, shape, nickname, and capital, as well as the state bird, and a handful of other interesting facts, such as state sport, state flower, state food, state motto (though these are not consistent, i.e. pages include some but not all of these). There are sometimes nods to famous people from the state, or famous things invented there, but the birds take center stage. And in the end, no "top tweet" is chosen: instead, all the birds join together to sing "America the Beautiful."

There is no back matter, but there is a map of the US in the front, and a small head-and-shoulders portrait of each bird, identified by the state's two-letter abbreviation. ( )

United Tweets of America: 50 State Birds, Their Stories, Their Glories, by Hudson Talbott is a children's book of all the 50 state birds and more.

When I picked this up I expected it to encompass all 50 state birds along with information pertaining to them. What a glorious surprise! The book is chock-full of facts about the state birds, state capitals, important people, and state nicknames. Some select states include information about state plants, gems, insects, instruments and even foods! We were amazed by all the information included.

Each state has select illustrations of birds, plants, and more. The book concludes with our national bird and the lyrics to "America the Beautiful."

This is a great book for classrooms, libraries, and home. There's so much information here, it's definitely a keeper!

This book is absolutely great, my kids in my class loved it and learned at the same time. In this book it tells the background of each state bird. It goes in dept. of what each bird is know for and the history of it in each state it represent. My kids loved it because they were allowed to make the different sounds of each bird and see all the birds of the United States. It also helped with my classroom morning circle because we teach our students how to identify the state of Louisiana bird, flag, reptile, mammal, and more. ( )
