Eyvind Johnson was born in Svartbjörnsbyn, Sweden on July 29, 1900. He held numerous jobs throughout his lifetime including a sawmill worker, a locomotive cleaner, a hay-presser, and a cement worker. In 1920, he and fellow young budding writers founded the literary magazine Vår Nutid (Our Present Day), which appeared in six issues. His first show more book, De Fyra Främlingarna (The Four Strangers), a collection of short stories, was published in 1924. His other works include Här Här Du Ditt Liv! (Here's Your Life), Strändernas Svall (Return to Ithaca), and Hans Nådes Tid (The Days of His Grace). He shared the Nobel Prize in Literature with Harry Martinson in 1974. He died on August 25, 1976.
