Haybillybun doesn't want to go to his first day of school at the Yappy Puppy Play School. He worries that his feet are too slippy, that his ears are too fuzzy, that his eyes are too scary, and that his mother should go instead of him. She agrees, as long as he'll do all her housework for her. "Oh, Mum!" he wails. His last fear is that his name is too long, so he asks his mum to tell the teacher he's called just Bun -- which she does. But then he meets his classmates who are named things like Willywobbleknees, Jeremiahthunderbolt, Susieshyshoes, Ellajellybelly, etc. So his mum leaves him there and goes off to do her chores. But she misses him and worries about him -- and finally goes to spy on him. Amazingly, he's having a wonderful time without her. At the end of the day she asks him if she can go to school tomorrow.
