This book really encouraged the reader to write. It emphasized the importance of writing about what is important to you, the writer, instead of just pandering to different audiences. We see this when the narrator keeps getting advice from her family, but never feels like the story is quite right. It isn't until she asks her mom that she is told that the best stories come from your heart, inspiring the narrator to right a story about what she cared about her friends and family.
This story teaches a lesson that as long as you are happy with your work then the opinions of others does not matter unless you are trying to make money of course. The girl is trying so hard to write the 'best' story when all along she has her personal favorite which is her own story. This is a fun book that can keep students engaged until the end.
This story is great for young writers. It is about the school library having a contest for the best story and this little girl wants to participate. The girl's brother tells her to add action. Her father tells her how funny stories are the best and her aunt tells her that stories should make someone cry. After writing the story, the girl doesn't feel right. After talking to her mom, she tells her to just write her own story how she wants. Finally, she decides to write about her family. The story is great and although it doesn't tell the contest results, it does look at the writing aspect of the story.
The children's book, "The Best Story" is about a girl that wanted to win a writing contest that she saw posted in the school library. The person that writes the best story will win a ride on a roller coaster with Anne Miles, who wrote The Runaway Roller Coaster. That was her favorite author! She went home right away so she could write her awesome story. However, there was one problem, she had no idea what to write about! She asked plenty other people for advice and came up with many different responses. Her brother told her that her story should have "lots of action", her dad said that it had to be funny, and her sister said that it should to be romantic. So, she wrote a story with all of those things included and read it to her family. show more Almost everyone said that her story was missing something, but her mother was silent. She decided to ask mom what she thought would be the best story. She hugged her and said, "I think the best story is one that comes from the heart. Your own heart." She took her mothers advice and rewrote the entire thing. The main reason why the story was missing something is because she took other people's advice about what they prefer a story to be like and mixed it all together. Her story should be about something that she wants to write about, and come from her heart. No matter if she won the contest, she still won in her heart, because it was a story that solely came from within. show less
A young girl finds out about a story competition and the prize for the winner is a roller coaster ride with her favorite author. She wants to write the BEST story. The thing they tell her range from humor, to action, to romance, to sadness. Finally she has a story she is willing to read to the whole family. After she reads it to them, they all have something to say except her mother. She asks her mother what makes the best story to her. Her mother said a story from the heart. So the girl wrote a story about her family and her best friends. If she wins, well we'll never show more know, but the girl was a winner in her heart. When it comes to writing, a story from the heart that personal and real is the best story out there. show less

The girl then follows this advice and decides it doesn't matter if she wins or not becasue she feels great about her story becasue it is genuinely her own. This book also shows how writer's change story show more lines and must work and rework writng to get it just write. It would be a great read aloud as you introduce narrative writing. show less
