Would also appeal to Chick Lit fans, and probably Women's Fiction fans look for a little escapism. Still a very rich-and-famous setting and characters.
I think Adler shot for the feel of a 1940's PI film noir, but without the noir. It falls flat without the noir. The PI has a steady girlfriend who helps him while trying to get him to propose -- a la "Girl Friday".
More of a mystery than romance or suspense...
I personally dislike the rich-and-famous, and every time one of those "detail added features" comes up, I get annoyed. However, if the reader likes that, I can see them liking Adler. I do like the dogs she adds to her stories.

I really enjoyed listening to this mystery. The narrator did a good job. I wonder if the one character was meant to be gay, or if it was just the effect of the woman reading the book
1.5*
Adler writes romantic suspense / chick-lit. This is the first in her Mac Reilly / Sunny Alvarez series. Mac is a private investigator with a Malibu beach bungalow, a one-eyed mutt named Pirate, and a reality crime-investigation TV show. His girlfriend Sunny just wants him to propose. While out for an evening stroll on the beach, he hears a woman scream and nearly gets shot when he runs to investigate. Before he knows it, however, he’s got multiple clients in the rich-and-famous Hollywood jet-set. The story has the characters traveling to Italy, Mexico and France in pursuit of a murderer.
The writing is hackneyed, and the characters one-dimensional. Worse, the plot twists are so incredible as to be plain ridiculous. I’ve read show more some of her other books and thought they were fun beach reads. I think she got carried away with this one and tried to do too much. I didn’t care at all about the relationship between Mac and Sunny. Actress Allie Ray’s adventures in the South of France were the best part …. That might have made an entertaining read all on its own. show less

One of those summer romance/mystery reads - a mystery that goes off the rails into a romance then back again - pretty predictable but easy to listen to with little attention needed
Ok mystery but the author goes a bit overboard in her descriptions
mystery love story, just ok
Näille kirjoille pitäisi varmaan "perustaa" oma kategoria/genre romanttiset dekkarit. Ei oikein puhtaasti kumpaakaan. Mutta viihteestä käy, jos ei liikaa vaadi.
