Description
The rules of relationships have changed. In our generational movement toward wholeness, women want to be more than mothers and homemakers and men aspire to loving relationships rather than simply being warriors and work machines. The age-old distinctions between male and female roles have blurred, and the rules of relationships have not yet caught up, creating confusion and frustration. Our parents couldn't teach us what they didn't know. As children, the lessons we learned from the adult show more relationships around us did not prepare us for our current adult love interests and challenges. Today, men and women expect relationships to enhance the total quality of their lives, meeting both their practical and emotional needs. And, when the need for individual fulfillment clashes with the desire to have a lasting relationship, couples often resort to divorce. With the extensive experience gained through his seminars, Dr. Gray has discovered several keys to happiness within relationships and shares this information with listeners. Through the development of relationship skills that address contemporary needs of individuals and couples, John Gray offers practical ways to enjoy and celebrate the differences between men and women and create long-lasting, fulfilling relationships. Cheesy title, but I recommend this book to ALL couples, whether or not you're having problems. It's a really practical guide to understanding how men and women think differently.
This is [b:Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus|1274|Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus|John Gray|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441636319l/1274._SY75_.jpg|55001] repackaged with more repetitious and more sexist language.
I loved Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus as well as some other of Gray's books and many of the principles and methods have helped me and my family. The verbiage of this book lacks the tact of others Gray has written.
I am not against the philosophy and principles of the book, as they mimic Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus but are presented with role defining words, especially since this book is from the angle of women needing different considerations from show more women in the past.
I still recommend most of the ideas that are based on the idea of men and women, generally speaking, handle, process, and react differently. We speak different langues that are made up of the same words and learning what the other is meaning with their words and actions diffuses situations and increases communication. show less

What Your Mother Didn't Tell You and your father didn't know, advanced relationship skills by John Gray
Wow what a fantastic book. Starts out with what men /women are like and answers all the questions in how to deal with it in today's hectic lifestyle.
I found myself listening to what is happening in my life and my spouse and saying I do that and didn't realize why I was doing it and why he escapes into cave mode and why.
Very enlightening and can't wait to read parts of this book together. So much of it stems on how we were raised, which adults, nurturing or not, etc
Can't wait to also listen to more of these tapes.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Gray writes a from personal experiences (his own and his patients) about the different perspectives of men and women. This book, while not profound, is a step toward understanding those differences and letting go of some issues in marriage. You will catch yourself smiling as you read. He gives a lot of examples of how communication goes awry becasue of the male-female differences. A next step up from this would be The Five Love Languages by Chapman.
A must read for any couples. What you will learn from the book would help to set a solid understanding about the differences between men and women. Men and women are different (literally). And we have to be aware of that in order to better communicate to each other, to better understand each other and to build a long lasting relationship between husband and wife, between bf and gf. At the very least, it can be applied to communication between men and women, doesn't need to be in love relationship.
This book will transform the relationship between the sexes forever.
If you can't understand why your partner doesn't understand you -- if you're tired of arguing over nothing at all -- then this is the book for both of you. WHAT YOUR MOTHER COULDN'T TELL YOU AND YOUR FATHER DIDN'T KNOW explains how we can all have happier, long-lasting and fulfilling relationships.
Using amusing, painful and all too familiar dialogues between couples, John Gray shows how easy it is for misunderstandings to occur. He looks at topics such as:
Why women want to talk about relationships
Why men don't commit
How women react when men don't want to talk
Why men feel blamed
Why women become difficult to please
Why men watch TV
By analysing each situation he explains show more how easy it is to improve understanding and intimacy, by learning to recognise, accept and respect the differences in the ways men and women talk to one another.
A truly life-changing book -- and not just for couples -- this book will revolutionize the way men and women communicate every day. show less
