The first general history in English of the Ottoman Army in the First World War, Ordered to Die is based on newly available Turkish archival and official sources. It fought a multi-front war against sophisticated and capable enemies, including Great Britain, France, and Russia. Excellent work on the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire in WWI. They were tough and much feared despite the limitations they faced, such as shortages of machine guns, airplanes, artillery, and other weapons. They were often thought to be the tools of the Germans, but Erickson makes a convincing case that they planned and led their own forces and followed their own national objectives. They fought on multiple fronts and against multiple enemies.
