This is definitely one of the betters in the series. This one actually had a real mystery! With a real bad guy! And things that weren't just in Lori's mind! Yay!
The origin of the name of Dundrillin Castle cracked me right up...guess I was just in the mood for really bad humor---ha!
I especially like what Aunt Dimity said at the end when Lori talked about tearing down landscaping to keep her home more safe. Aunt Dimity said we don't fight evil by destroying life. Instead, we do life-giving things and we "defeat evil every time we commit an act of kindness." Yes, Ma'am---that's good stuff!
The completion of this book also allowed for the completion of my yearly goal of reading 50 books...and it's only August! Yay me!

For an Aunt Dimity cozy, the premise is very different.
Lori Shepherds’ husband has been getting some very serious death threats against him and his family. An unusual occurrence for an attourney in the field of estate law.
To protect Lori and their twin boys, they are sent to stay at a castle of a friend off a remote off Scotland. The property has all the latest in security systems, along with hired security staff. The island, itself, isn’t easily accessible. Meanwhile, Bill, Lorie’s husband stays home to work on finding possible leads as to who is making the threats.
While on the island, a human skull washes up on the beach. There are also stories of the island’s past history involving smuggling.
A couple of young people turn up show more on the island. One is someone Lori knows well from home, but is travelling under an assumed name. The two people are studying the bird population of the island, but things observed by the two people makes Lori wonder if the island’s past of smuggling isn’t still going on.
With a set of very active twins, a mother with a very active and inquisitive mind and threats against the family there is a recipe for possible, or rather inevitable danger.
Aunt Dimity proves to be a source of history and some sensibility, even if she is available in the pages of a journal.
The Dimity series is a fun read with highs and lows. Dimity seems to be the steering rudder for Lori in her sleuthing. Something Lori needs to curb her vivid and wide ranging mind at times. show less

Involves an interesting diversionary tactic, where we spend the first 15 pages determining that the heroine is being packed off to a remote island since a killer has targeted her, the next 300 learning interesting things and solving mysteries about the island, and the last ten actually dealing with the killer. But I suppose if you buy into the idea of a ghost sleuth, you ought to be totally down with ancient castles, ruined monasteries, secret passages, and buried treasure, and if you are, you'll enjoy this one. Love the characterization, especially of the bodyguards, but of course the plot of the story necessarily reads more like Rider Haggard than a solid mystery. For much the same reasons the answer to the mystery of the island show more didn't ring particularly true. But I liked it well enough. show less
Lori Shepherd's husband receives death threats against him, his wife and their twin sons. Under extreme secrecy Lori and the boys are transported to a remote island off the coast of Scotland, home of Sir Percy, family friend. Meanwhile, Bill and Scotland Yard are searching his files to find a disgruntled client or perpetrator. While on the island, Lori meets a friend in disguise and begins learning some weird things about the island and its inhabitant. This mystery is a step up from the last couple I read where Lori seems to be constantly flirting with the main male character in the mystery when her husband is absent. This makes me want to continue with the series.
Another great book in the series! This was the perfect way to start the new year because it was easy to read, full of action and had a happy ending! I loved reading how Lori (the main character) maintains her optimistism even while facing a threat to her family. If you are looking for a book (or series) that has mystery, action, and leaves you with a smile when you close the book - I recommend this one!
This is the first of the Aunt Dimity series that I have read, and I would like to backtrack and perhaps read the first in the series to find out more about the setup. It's well explained in the story but it would be nice to expand on it.
In this story Lori's husband Bill is getting death threats, not only about himself but also about his family. In order to assure their safety he gets Sir Percy to bring them to his isolated island off Scotland.
Lori is stressed, has a bodyguard and is seeing things on a smaller deserted island near the other island.
It's a sweet story and some of my guesses were off which amused me greatly.

I know why they gave it the 'Deep Blue Sea' in the title. That's where the main story line goes until the very end of the book. Then it's over and done with so fast with a few more chapters of rehashing so the reader gets the details. Not my favorite, but the recipe looks interesting.
