I've been interested in the subject of consciousness and related topics like dreams for as long as I can remember. With experience, annecdotal tales and interesting stuff from the edges of science, as well as writings of mystics and explorers of the spiritual for the whole of human history, I'm thoroughly convinced that consciousness is not a localized phenomenon, nor is it created by the brain. The brain, IMO, is just an interface that allows the consciousness to interact with this level of existence. It is not the driver. The driver can get out and leave the car. Anyway, when I was in Germany, I did some experimentation in Lucid Dreaming, which is tangeantally related to this topic. I didn't have that much luck with it, but started show more experimenting with this. I tried some exercises and didn't have lots of luck with it, either, until one night... Mr. Buhlman's book is a great introducftion to the topic, what it is, some of what people have experienced with it, and how you can begin exploring it yourself, if you like. I recommend, both the read and seeing what you can discover for yourself. show less
Concise and thought-provoking introduction to the subject. There is no whacked-out new age theories, no religious jargon, and he doesn't wax eloquent about how theology sucks or driving your car means your an earth-killer and you can't have OBEs.
