F/SF This was the Battle of Midway, right down to the squadron numbers, specific actions, carrier dispositions, size of reef, and number of dead. That would have been sort of fun if the back story and human interest side stories had been spiced up a bit to be engaging, but this was just lazy Science fiction. I considered giving it only one star, but I'm trying to reserve that for books that wasted my time with longer stories. This book was all right, nothing spectacular. I kept noticing how he came up with new names—reversing names like Melinda and Gordon, etc. Also, the fact that we were chronically behind in technology in a fleet that is supposedly protecting the Earth and core planets from Berserker invasion was just a little too much. no reviews | add a review

Before George Lucas's Death Star, before Star trek's Doomsday Machine, came the Berserkers, intelligent, space-faring killing machines whose sole purpose is to destroy all life. The Berserkers have developed a new trick: Berserker units that can pass for human-created androids. They're gambling on the advantage this gives them and massing for an all-out attack on human-held space. But the humans have developed a trick of their own. They've cracked the Berserkers' basic codes and know what their battle plans are. Both sides are betting everything they have. For one of them, it will be the beginning of the end.
