McDuff and the Baby is an easy read book because the words are small and easy for children to read on their own. This book is about change in the family. The family started as a mom, dad, and a dog. Soon the newest addition became a baby. There was change throughout the family because the baby became much more needy then the dog was so the mom and dad stopped paying as much attention to the dog and gave most of it to the baby. This is a good book to read to children who are experiencing or will experience change in their family. It will show children that even though some things may change and new traditions may be made, the old traditions can still stay the same. This is a good book that a teacher can read while taking about family show more dynamics. It gives a different perspective on a family with the dog being the main charter. The illustrations in this book are very well done. They are very colorful and they look like they were painted. show less
This was a cute book. I would not read it to older students, but I would read it to students between pre-k and first grade. I think that this books can teach students a lot about sharing with other people. I believe that it teaches them that things will change once they get into a new environment. For example, when children first start school, they learn that they need to share with the other students, such as getting the teachers attention.
McDuff was happy with his lifestyle in every way. However, one day, a stranger arrives and his lifestyle changes. He didn't get the attention that he had and didn't get to do the things that he loved. McDuff stopped eating and that's when Fred and Lucy figured that he was unhappy so they fixed their lifestyle in the way that it was suitable for all, including the new stranger, which was the baby.
McDuff lives a fantastic life for a dog. He sleeps on his own blanket, listens to the comics as they are read out loud, and gets walked in the woods. When a new baby arrives, McDuff is forgotten and all the attention goes to the baby. Eventually McDuff stops eating and his owners notice something is wrong, and they remember that McDuff needs some attention too. This book is good for children from preschool to first grade because it may help them learn that the attention will not always be on them, but they will be remembered and tended to if they are patient.

This is an excellent book for children. It is a story about a dog named McDuff who has always been the center of attention to his owners, Fred and Lucy. However, once Fred and Lucy bring their newborn baby home, McDuff instantly gets jealous because he no longer gets their full attention. He ignores the baby and eventually stops eating, which is when Fred and Lucy realize that he must want things back to the way they used to be before the baby arrived. Therefore, Fred and Lucy compromise by balancing their time with McDuff and the baby, as well as doing things together as a family.
I would read this book to students in kindergarten and first grade. A good time to read it to children is when they are learning about animals or dealing with show more situations such as jealousy or compromise. show less

This is a story of jealousy and compromise. When Fred and Lucy have a baby, they suddenly don’t have time to do all the things they used to with McDuff and he doesn’t like the new baby like they had hoped. Once they realize McDuff had stopped eating they make more time for him doing things all together and McDuff is happy.
The most heart-warming story of dog owners who share quality time with their pooch. One day, a new baby arrives in the home and the dog's world is turned upside down. When the parents realize that the dog is a bit jealous of the new baby, they spend more time with both the dog and the baby and all are happy again.
