Not the most detailed of recipes from Colonial times, however, the addition of the poems that accompanied many recipes were delightful to read. Surprising to see a cake recipe that was 40 eggs, 4 pounds of butter, 4 pounds of sugar, 5 pounds of flour, and 4 pounds of fruit. What I liked best was the women's history facts. Do you know what we call it a cocktail? The inventor of the American cocktail was Betsy Flanagan who served each drink with a brightly colored tail feather of cocks to be used a stirrer. There is also a section called How the women of Boston secured coffee during the war told by Abigal Adams; it's brilliant. If you like to see how much has changed since the days of the American's Revolution, it's a wonderful read. If you like history about Martha and George Washington as well as Abigal Adams, I would say, you should check this book out. - Dr. Leah Leach, 2019 ( ) no reviews | add a review
